Jan Fitch

Hometown: Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada

In 1977 Jan had the opportunity to crew on a 38’ sailing ketch from England to the Chesapeake where she met local carver, Eddie Cheezum, who encouraged her to take classes.  Six months later, and crewing again, any corner on the boat was her workshop.  In 1979 carving was a full time profession and the WFF her first showing.

Jan’s love of birds is expressed in her hand crafted basswood carvings, two dimensional cast paper and HDU medium incorporating driftwood as a frame to hand on the wall.  Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

In 1983 she moved to Ontario, Canada and now lives with her husband on Wolfe Island.  She still travels to work by boat and can be found creating and teaching her craft at her studio on the mainland in Kingston.
