For many years, one of her favorite subjects has been people at work. As a figurative painter, she strives to infuse life into her subjects while giving dignity to the man or woman performing sometimes commonplace tasks such as waitressing, directing traffic, or even sweeping our streets. In recent years that interest has expanded to include the working watermen of the Chesapeake Bay. Nancy was fortunate to receive a commission to paint portraits of watermen, and getting to know the watermen who posed for her has enriched her understanding and knowledge of the rich, yet endangered resource that we celebrate.
