Howard J. Eberle
Hometown: Lewes, DE
A self-taught artist, Eberle has been painting in watercolor since 1973 and professionally since 1990. Originally from Baltimore, Eberle’s inspiration for many of his paintings comes from having lived near the Chesapeake Bay all of his life. His subject matter is very focused- an old boat, a decoy, a lighthouse. His passion to create texture with watercolor- peeled paint, rust, wood and stone- results in elements found in many of the subjects he paints. It is the challenge of creating drama through light and composition that defines the style he calls “abstract or contemporary realism”.
Eberle’s signature memberships include the American Watercolor Society, National Watercolor Society, Transparent Watercolor Society, International Society of Experimental Artists and the Allied Artists of America, Inc.
