The 2014 Waterfowl Festival Masterclasses will be held on
Thursday, November 13th! 

Doug Mason for web“It’s All in the Face”  Duck Head Carving
Doug Mason of Carrying Place, Ontario, Canada

Finish carving a Blue Wing Teal head with Master Carver Doug Mason. Doug will take the participants through the steps and techniques he uses to shape and create attitude and personality in the face of a Blue Wing Teal Drake.  Emphasis will be placed on head shape and eye setting. "When judging a carving, the face is the first area I look at, especially the eyes.”  The steps and techniques used may be applied to any bird carving.  Participants will be provided with a roughed-out tupelo head and glass eyes.  A power tool is recommended due to time constraints. Supply list will be provided.

 

Tako for Web“Brushing Up on Landscape Oil Painting” 
Jason Tako of Dover, Pennsylvania

This class is designed for all levels of oil painters, especially those wanting to practice techniques in landscape painting. Jason will help you compose and paint natural land and water elements by first demonstrating and then critiquing each participant’s progress throughout the class. The focus will be on the use of oils in painting natural landscapes, and every participant will finish the day with their own completed painting. Upon registration, the instructor will provide a materials supply list. This class promises to be lots of fun!

 

Hershberger“Essentials of Digital Photography”

This session will be geared to the owner of a compact or digital SLR camera or for those that are making the transition to digital photography. This class will focus on the essentials of digital photography and help participants learn how to get the most out of their digital camera. Discussion will focus on the basics of photographic metering, seeing light, and using aperture, shutter speed, and ISO as creative tools, composition basics, exposure, and the latest field techniques. Wil will also provide critiques of class participant images, so plan to bring along examples of your best shots - and worst ones.

 

Advanced Techniques in Digital Nature Photography”

($75 for both photography classes) 

This session will include the latest techniques in digital photography and how to store and share your photos with relatives and friends.  Topics include digital workflow, management of digital files, and how Lightroom can make the task a lot easier and streamlined. Wil will also provide critiques of participant images, so bring examples of your work.
